Lifting the Veil
What if everything you ever needed was within and not without? Lifting the Veil invites you on a journey of connection with yourself and with the Earth, so that you may question who or where you seek, for answers. The short documentary explores the intuitive journeys of three women, as well as their offerings of energy healing, tantric movement and sensory activation. In a world which teaches us to value the voices around us more than the voice within, leading with our intuition is a radical act, and it may just be the path towards an energetic balance on Earth.
Director's Statement
Lifting the Veil was my first time directing for documentary and it was an incredible learning experience, which has helped me connect even deeper to my intuition than ever before. My intention with this documentary is to remind others of the power of their intuition and encourage them to reflect on the ways in which Western society has clouded the voice of their inner knower.

Meet the Team
Brianna Duguay - Producer & 1st AC
Brianna is a filmmaker and photographer from Southern Ontario. She is a 2021 graduate in the Bachelor Film and Television program from Sheridan College. She specializes in 1st Assistant Camera for short films and documentaries. When Brianna is not on short films or documentaries, you can catch her shooting and developing her own 35 mm photography, creating digital and analogue collages, and hanging out with her cat Dude binge-watching reality-television!

JR Velarde - Director of Photography & Camera Operator
JR is a Filipino-Canadian Cinematographer based in the Greater Toronto Area. With a focus on narrative and documentary projects, he tries to inspire others with true to life stories.
"When it comes to intuition, I feel that I am a person that follows his intuition more than one that follows logic and reason. Although it may lead me to a destination I was not expecting, it’s always a journey that’s always filled with lots of experiences that I am happy with :)"
Samantha van der Bent - Picture Editor & DMT
Samantha is an emerging filmmaker who is passionate about telling inspiring and authentic stories. She has recently graduated from the Bachelor of Film and Television degree at Sheridan College and is specialized in directing and editing.
She believes intuition is a strong force that, when we choose to listen to it, will lead to true happiness and self-love.
Erika Guerrero - Picture Editor
Erika is an aspiring film editor based in Mississauga, Ontario. She specializes in Post Production, and from an early age, she knew her passions would lead her towards this stream. With self-taught experience in motion graphics, she hopes to expand her skills to further explore other aspects of Post Production. Her goal is to bring authentic stories to life through the lens of her editing, captivating an audience.
To her, intuition is one of the only things that will truly guide you to a place of acceptance and growth in order to love yourself first.
Robin Gruszczynski - Sound Recordist & Sound Designer
Robin (she/her) is an aspiring soundie in the city of Mississauga, Ontario. She recently graduated from Bachelor of Film and Television degree at Sheridan College. She enjoys exploring the realm of sound through on set production and post production sound design. Constantly growing her skills through each documentary, dramas, and animation, she hopes to touch people's hearts through the art of sound.
With a musical background, sound has always been the intuition that guides her to new discoveries.
Emily Ryder - 1st AD & Production Designer
Emily is a filmmaker from Mississauga, Ontario and recent graduate of Sheridan College’s Bachelor of Film and Television program. In their work, they are interested in bringing honest, thoughtful, and feminist stories to screen, and they are so grateful to have been a part of Lifting the Veil.

Jared Marino - Camera Operator, Gaffer & Colourist
Jared (he/him) is a Toronto based cinematographer & colourist. His work ranges in narrative, documentary, music video, and commercial content.
He believes that following our intuition will ultimately lead us to our goals and will aid in finding who we truly want to become.
Katerina Melohe - Post Production Supervisor
Katerina is a producer/editor currently residing in Kingston, Ontario. After reading Florence Given’s Women Don’t Owe You Pretty, she became inspired to work on female-driven stories as a way of combating the typical male gaze seen in cinema.
Katerina believes intuition is a key element to decision making, and hopes this film enhances its importance, especially for young women.
Cosimo Racco - Composer
"I started playing the guitar at 13 and fell in love with music from that day onward. While studying music in school I became infatuated with classical music. After my interests shifted to the realm of classical music I decided to mix my love of music with film. After I had this revelation I decided to dedicate all my time to becoming an innovated film composer."

Without intuition a person will never be able to utilize their emotions to create reflections on life and the human condition. Jamie Hilts - Assistant Set Decorator
Jamie is a filmmaker from Toronto. Attending Sheridan College, he specializes in writing and directing, but has a knack for production design.
Intuition led Jamie to quit his corporate job and go to film school. Despite people discouraging him, he knew in his heart it was the right decision.

Brittney Guimond is a Teacher & Devotee of Feminine Spirituality; the centering of the body as our guide.
